FAQ for Police and Fire

From what age do my deferred benefits with Grampian Police/Fire come into payment?
Deferred benefits are generally paid at age 60, although they may be paid at an earlier date if you are permanently disabled.

I require a pension valuation, as I am going through divorce proceedings. Who do I contact?
Please contact the Pensions Section immediately, as we require certain information before we can provide you with the necessary details. You should be aware that your pension valuation is not the same as the estimated pension and lump sum figures on your annual benefit statement.

Back to FAQ

I am a part time police officer and was wondering how this effects my pension benefits?
In general, your eligibility towards any pension benefits will be based on your notional full time service within the Police Pension Scheme and then pro-rated for periods of part time service.

Back to FAQ

I am a Fire fighter and was off on strike and would like to pay back my contributions?
Grampian Fire Brigade has recently communicated with all staff who were on industrial action and have provided them with an option of paying back pension contributions for the strike days. Please check with Grampian Fire Brigade if you have not received any information, as you will not get an opportunity at a later date to pay for any unpaid strike days.
