Aberdeen City Council Pension Fund (The Main Fund) and the Transport Fund are administered by Aberdeen City Council within the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) regulations.

The LGPS (Scotland) was established under the Superannuation Fund Act 1972. It is a statutory Scheme and is contracted out of the Second State Pension. As such it is very secure because its benefits are defined and guaranteed in law.

The Scheme is open to all employees of the scheduled bodies, except for those whose employment entitles them to belong to another statutory pension scheme (e.g. Police, Fire and Teachers). Employees of admitted bodies can join the Scheme subject to their individual employer admission criteria which are outwith the control of Aberdeen City Council.
